Human trafficking
Human trafficking is the trade of humans, usually for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commercial sexual exploitation.
Trafficking does not always mean moving people between different countries – it can mean being moved around within the same country. Trafficking is illegal under the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
This legislation makes it clear that victims of human trafficking should be protected and supported.
If you answer yes to any of the following, you may have been trafficked.
- Have you been brought to the UK against your will?
- Have you been brought to the UK but the promises made to you have been broken?
- Are you being forced to give the money you earn to someone else?
- Is someone forcing you to see more clients than you originally expected?
- Is someone forcing you to have unprotected sex or have sex in a way that you do not want to?
If you or anyone you know may have been a victim of trafficking you can contact the SAFE Project team, the Salvation Army or Hope for Justice for help and support.
